Our group is working to find simple and effective ways of collecting data from our cover crop trials. In the fall of 2018, we began using trail cameras to take photos of some of the cover crop fields around NH. The cameras are set to take at least one photo every day. This provides us with useful information like how the growth rate changes with the season and weather, when various species bloom in the spring, and how variables like planting date and method affect cover crop growth.

More cover crop videos and photo galleries coming soon!

Want to set up your own monitoring system? Here’s the equipment we purchased.

Moultrie M-50 Game Camera Other cameras will work, but not just any trail camera. It must have a “time lapse” feature that produces usable photo file types.

Memory Card With 32 GB, we don’t have to worry about running out of memory.

Batteries Lithium batteries are expected to last longer, which is important when we are leaving these cameras out for several months. So far the battery life has been excellent.
